Pier Beneath |

What lies beneath? The coastal waters around the pier are teeming with fascinating marine life. Pier Beneath is the part of The Pier's Tale that helps us to discover more about this wonderful underwater world. Working in partnership with Bournemouth University and the Southern Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority (IFCA) it involves ongoing research and surveys as well as film and photographs to record what's living there. |

Marine WildlifeInformation about the importance of the pier for marine wildlife was limited. Our initial surveys now show how it is used by many different marine species. Plants and animals use it for a variety of reasons including as a hard structure to attach themselves to, a place to shelter from the fast flowing currents and as source of food - some even eating the pier itself! |

Life in the SolentMarine creatures use the pier as a 'stepping stone' to reach other structures and habitats in the area. Yarmouth Pier is in an ideal position from which to gather information and for us all to discover more about our wonderful coastal waters. |
